History
Each winter, Aldermen John Coughlin and Michael Kenna of Chicago's First Ward held the original First Ward Ball. Their Levee district gave the Next Ward's government its name. The Ball grew into one of the largest and most notorious parties in the city's history, until the city's reformers saw to it that it ended. The Levee revives the Ball in name and in spirit, at a smaller scale.
